How can I be adequately insured ?
If, in theory, insuring your boat is not obligatory, in practice it is impossible not to :
QUO VADIS will request an insurance certificate before craning
or receiving your boat in our yard, as will most French ports. Credit organisations will of
course demand that the boats they finance be insured and,
like SGB, will offer insurance which is included in the monthly repayments.
In one case only ( if you buy a boat from QUO VADIS and we manage the chartering ), QUO VADIS will ask that you use the same insurance
company as they do ( Générali ) and the same broker ( Favier Casanova ) : in effect, if the boat has an accident during a charter organised by QUO VADIS,
it is of course preferable, to avoid any conflict between the boat owner's insurer and that of the charter manager, to be insured with the same company.
Also, the experience of these last few years has shown that the boats managed by QUO VADIS have fewer accidents than those managed by other charter
companies and that when there has been a accident, they cost less to manage, which means a saving in premiums.
In addition, to insure your boat effectively, we have one piece of advice ; choose a maritime insurer who knows our region well. In practice,
to deal with an accident correctly, your insurance company's choice of a maritime assessor is paramount since it is very often on his report
that the company will base their compensation. Now, as in all occupations, professional and ethical qualities of assessors are more or less pronounced.
It is therefore extremely important to be sure that your assessor will defend your interests and those of the insurance company and there will be mutual
trust with the yard which will carry out the repairs on your boat.
Finally, do not fall for tempting offers from the more unscrupulous brokers who use foreign insurance policies and whose low costs are only indicative
of their poor risk cover and their " cowboy practices " consisting of paying out as late as possible the miserly compensation they are forced to make
when they have exhausted all their avoidance tactics. |
